Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg visits Portsmouth to support Gerald Vernon-Jackson

Today, Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the Liberal Democrats, was in Portsmouth at the iconic Spinnaker Tower to show his support for Gerald Vernon-Jackson (Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Portsmouth South).

Mr Clegg spoke of Gerald’s real commitment to both the people of Portsmouth and the Royal Navy. “You only have to look at Gerald’s record of action in here in Portsmouth as Leader of the Council of 10 years. That is why he is going to be the next MP for Portsmouth South.”

The Deputy Prime Minister continued to warn of the dangers of not voting for Gerald.

“A vote for Labour, the Greens, UKIP or any other candidate is a vote for the Conservatives. It’s a vote for George Osbourne’s extreme cuts plan which will see public services suffer. He wants to keep cutting even after eliminating the nation’s deficit. Only by voting for this man [Gerald Vernon-Jackson] here in Portsmouth South can we make sure we don’t have a government lurching to the left, with Nicola Sturgeon pulling the strings, or an extreme right wing alliance with Nigel Farage in the driving seat. We need Liberal Democrats in government, anchoring British politics in the centre ground.”

Gerald commented: “More and more people who have traditionally voted Labour or Conservative all their lives are saying they will back me this time to make sure we have Lib Dems in government to stop Britain taking the wrong route to an extreme government.”
