Yesterday evening, Gerald Vernon-Jackson was officially adopted as the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Portsmouth South at a rally of over a hundred activists and members in the Victory Suite at Fratton Park.
Also, at the same rally, this year's Lib Dem council candidates were officially adopted as well as Darren Sanders as the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Portsmouth North.
"It has been a really positive evening. I'd like to give special thanks to my mum and to John [Gerald's partner] for their continued support and to all of you who have put your faith in me to become the next MP for Portsmouth South. It's going to be a tough battle between us and the Tories but we have to win. We have to stop them here. Noone else will."
Tim Farron MP, former Lib Dem Party President, came down to Portsmouth to speak to activists and wish Gerald the best for the election. Tim said:
"I know that the Portsmouth Lib Dem team are working really hard. They have a strong record of delivering for local people and it shows."
