Today, Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Portsmouth South, was at the city’s commemorative ceremony for the Halabja Massacre.
On this day in 1988, the town of Halabja was attacked in the closing days of the Iraq-Iran war. Over 5000 people were massacred with thousands more suffering from fatal illness and shock.
Gerald Vernon-Jackson commented:
“We must never allow the world to forget this day. Hundreds of people came together this afternoon in Portsmouth to remember. By keeping this memory alive, we remember to do all we can to stop such atrocities from happening again.”
