Liberal Democrats in government have secured £150 million investment in mental health specifically targeted at reforming the treatment of children and young people with eating disorders.
This is part of the Liberal Democrat initiative to bring in new waiting time standards and put mental health issues on the same level as physical health.
Parliamentary candidate Gerald Vernon-Jackson said,
“For too long, mental health issues have taken a back seat to physical health. With more and more young people being admitted to hospital for eating disorders, it is so important that we work hard to bring the treatment standards for mental health up.”
Objectives of this investment include extending access to talking therapies for children, making sure young people with eating disorders and history of self-harming receive fast access to trained teams in their communities and provide prompt access to evidence based treatment.
