Liberal Democrats in government have laid out a six year, £2.3 billion, flood protection plan which will provide protection for 300,000 homes.
Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Lib Dem MP Danny Alexander said:
"We all saw the destruction and heartache caused by flooding last year and that is why this investment is vital to build up Britain's defences for the future.
"The projects we are announcing today will protect some of the country's most at risk locations ensuring that we will be as prepared as possible for future severe weather."
Parliamentary candidate Gerald Vernon-Jackson said,
"Southsea came dangerously close to being severely flooded last winter. I welcome the investment going into securing the livelihoods of all who live near the sea including all of those living here in Portsmouth."
